Community Television Delivery System

Wantok Enterprises has developed a community television delivery system using the 2.54 GHz frequency band.

There are a number of advantages to using the 2.54 gHz frequency band for delivery of the television signal.

·        It uses relatively little power to deliver a useable signal a good distance

·        Most governments, including those in Europe, North America and parts of South America and Africa do not require licensing in this portion of the frequency spectrum.

·        The equipment is very light and portable

·        Cost is significantly lower than conventional television equipment

·        The down converters are commercially available for the end users

·        Transmission can be in PAL, SECAM, or NTSC standard so existing Television receivers in the home will operate normally for their own standard

·        High-Gain receive antennas can be connected to the down converters for better signal quality in fringe reception areas

There are some disadvantages relative to conventional Television broadcasting.

Wantok has used a 1 Watt amplifier to provide both video and audio of good quality to a distance of 15Km, omni-directional by using a High-Gain transmit antenna and gain receivers in fringe coverage areas.

The down conversion from 2.54 gHz to standard television baseband requires a down converter on each Television receiver

The small rotational antenna on the down converter picks up the signal from the 2.54 gHz transmitter, feeds it into the down conversion circuitry and converts the signal back to normal base band in whatever television standard is being used.

Both the down converters and the gain antennas are usually available commercially so the television provider can leave that cost to the end user if it is feasible to do so.

If down converters and gain antennas are ordered through Wantok Enterprises allow 6-8 weeks for delivery.

Wantok prices are available in the “Pro Forma” section of the web site.
